Trusting Children with Real Things
If we want children to learn real skills, we need to trust them with real things. How can you understand what happens to glass if it is dropped, if you have never held a glass?
Sure, it can be scary to hand a child a glass for the first time, but it's not just a matter of handing it over and walking away. When we trust children with real things, we also have a responsibility - a responsibility to show the child how to use that real thing, how to care for it, to explain the potential risks involved. That's what we'll be exploring in this session: the practicalities of trusting children with real things.
